I started off the day driving to one of the closest starts of the day that I’ve ever had. I reached the Blu Hotel in Newton to find Megan and her ladies getting ready in one of the most beautiful and colorful hotel rooms. We had so much natural light coming in, that it was a photographer’s dream. Shortly after arriving after grabbing images of the invitations, jewelry, shoes and other bridal details, Megan opened her wedding day gifts from Dan. These were the perfect gifts, and Megan cried opening them because she loved it so much. The first was a passport cover with her new initials on it and the second was a pearl necklace. The pearl necklace was really special because she had told Dan about how her mom got a pearl necklace from her dad on their wedding day, and it was beautiful that he honored that tradition in this way. Megan looked so classically beautiful when she put on her wedding dress, and in another special moment, she did a reveal with her dad. Her father was smiling for ear to ear and they both looked so joyously happy.
After this we all headed over to Elm Bank to do their first look. We were all set up with Dan in one of the gardens, and then it started to drizzle. We all got nervous for a second, but just a minute or two later it stopped. Megan came around the corner and tapped him on the shoulder. These two were so overjoyed seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. They were beaming and it was the kind of first look that makes me tear up with happiness. We walked around Elm Bank, taking photos in the Italianate Garden. One of the best moments was when they were practicing their first dance and Megan just kicked up her dress so they could do a spin. It made for one of the most beautiful photos, that basically looked like a fashion magazine ad.
A few minutes later their bridal party walks up cheering with excitement, and Megan and Dan got to see Desmond (their dog) for the first time that day. We had so much fun grabbing bridal party photos and then their families arrived for their photos. The family photos were so sweet, I didn’t even have to tell them to smile because both Megan and Dan’s families were all laughter and smiles. I could tell from just their bridal party and family portraits that this day was going to be amazing.
After wrapping up all of their family portraits, the bridal party hid away and we got settled in the Italianate Garden for the ceremony. Elm Bank truly created one of the most beautiful ceremony sites. While waiting for the bridal party to walk down the aisle, we heard lots of thunder in the distance but the storms stayed away and we even got some sunshine during the ceremony. It was such a beautiful ceremony filled with personal touches. Their vows were so lovely, and it basically made all of their family (and myself) tear up. After exchanging rings and sharing their first kiss as husband and wife, Megan and Dan were floating with happiness. One of my favorite images from their wedding day was right after they were married, they were so happy and being able to capture this made me ecstatic.
The weather kept up and there was sunshine throughout their cocktail hour, with guests playing games, drinking cocktails, and everyone enjoying seeing friends and family from near and far. After this fun and lively cocktail hour, I took Megan and Dan for a few sunset portraits. In Elm Bank we had so many awesome locations to take photos, we honestly ran out of time to get portraits in all of the places. We then headed inside to start the reception, and after some amazing intros Megan and Dan started their first dance to the song, “Dance with Me” by Phillip Phillips. It was so beautiful and I loved how excited all of their guests were for them. The reception then got started with a lovely speech from Megan’s dad which highlighted how much he loves Megan and how close Dan and Megan’s family are. We then were treated to speeches that were both equally sweet and hilarious from Megan’s sisters and Dan’s brother. The funniest part was with Dan’s brother’s speech starting off about how Dan and him were kind of close before but became really close when they spent the night in the same bed in Vegas. I absolutely loved their speeches, it showed how close Megan and her sisters are and how close Dan and his brother are now. You could definitely tell how well they know each other and how happy they were seeing their sibling getting married.
After the dinner wrapped up, Megan and Dan cut their wedding cake and then launched into their parent dances. Both dances were so sweet and I loved their song selections. The parent dances started off the dancing, and then they did an anniversary dance where by the way this group had some of the longest anniversaries. It took a while to eliminate couples because there were so many who had been together 30+ years. After this game, the fun dancing portion of the night started and this group was killing it. Everyone was up for dancing the night away. It was such an awesome ending to the evening, and such a beautiful day. Congratulations again Megan and Dan, it was such a beautiful day for sweet and lovely couple.
