I met Lizzy and Shane a little over two years ago at a coffee shop in Davis Square. I actually knew Lizzy because she was a friend of my friend Pietra’s in college at Boston University. After meeting these two, I knew it would be such a good fit. After their engagement session at Fenway Park last year (almost a year to their wedding day), I really felt like these two were just like friends of mine. We had been planning for a while and it was so crazy to see their wedding plans come to life.
I started off the day at the hotel with Lizzy and her bridesmaids, when I came in they were already done with hair and makeup and just hanging out and having fun in their matching flannel shirts (complete with monograms for each lady). What I loved was that this set the tone for the day, it was a very relaxed start to the day with everyone just having fun being around each other. I photographed details like Lizzy’s jewelry, invitations, and incredibly amazing sparkly red shoes. We were all just chatting and having fun, and the ladies were having a good time getting ready. There were some really sweet moments between Lizzy and her mom while she got into her wedding dress, and then we left for Lizzy and Shane’s first look.
We were so lucky that there was this beautiful large tree across from the brewery and we had Shane waiting there for Lizzy. When Lizzy and Shane saw each other for the first time, they both were grinning ear to ear. Lizzy showed off her awesome shoes, the two of them did some practice dancing, and then we went inside to grab a few photos by the bar. These two picked the perfect place for their wedding. As beer aficionados, Red Hook Brewery (now Cisco Brewery), was a perfect choice for them. They actually went there a lot before they even picked it as their wedding venue. So we had to get a few photos inside at the bar with some of their amazing beer.
Their wedding ceremony started with tons of smiles and excitement. I absolutely loved that I was able to capture a photo of Shane the moment he saw Lizzy walking down the aisle. You can just see all of the joy in his face, and likewise how happy Lizzy was seeing him. Their friend, Becca, officiated the ceremony that was again the perfect fit for the two of them. One of my favorite parts was their personal vows and then their sharing of a new creation of beer. The beer they created was a mix of one beer that Shane liked and a cider that Lizzy liked, they each took a swig and that represented their new married life together. They sealed the ceremony with a kiss, and started off their walk back down the aisle beaming as a newly married couple. Their cocktail hour had lots of competition in cornhole games, frisby games, and the music of their DJ/Band combo playing traditional Irish music. The introduction of the bridal party was so much fun, with each person dancing their way onto the dance floor and then starting off Lizzy and Shane’s first dance. Shortly after this were the speeches, which had everyone crying with laughter. The best man, Matt, and matron of honor (and Lizzy's sister), Rachael, absolutely killed it and had everyone in stitches.
Lizzy and Shane cut their cake, and (I’m really glad) did not smash it into each other’s faces. After this Lizzy and her dad started off their father-daughter dance, which I was so jazzed about because it was “Edelweiss” from “The Sound of Music.” Lizzy told me that this was a natural pick for their dance because she had a music box growing up that played that song. Shane and his mom also killed it dancing to the song “If Not For You” and they both had so much fun dancing during that song.
After this we snuck Lizzy and Shane out for a few sunset photos, which we got lucky because there was a field across from the brewery that was a beautiful backdrop for photos. When we got back, the dancing was in full swing. There were tons of Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and NSYNC songs being played, giving me a flashback to growing up. Lizzy and her friend Lisa did an awesome dance to the song “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire and all of the guests danced into the night. It was such a fun wedding, and it was so perfect for these two, it absolutely fit who they are and what they love. Such an amazing day, and these two were so much fun to work with. Congratulations again Lizzy and Shane, this was such a great day to be a part of and I now want more weddings at breweries because this was a blast!
